LOS ANGELES – A series of alleged crimes in Studio City prompts people to leave an apartment complex.
The landlord says a thief appears to repeatedly target his building despite security upgrades and contact with police.
“The MO is the same – the way it comes in is insane,” said the owner, who asked to remain anonymous, for security reasons. “He’s so comfortable.”
He says the thief has stolen and caused $65,000 in damage since last summer in at least five separate incidents at the 3000 block of Riverton Ave.
“It was the guy’s arrogance that attracted me,” he added.
The owner says he did not file a police report for the first three thefts last year because he did not believe what was stolen was significant enough to warrant police attention. However, Thursday morning’s burglary worries him and his tenants.
Surveillance video shows a man broke into the building around 3:45 a.m., calmly navigating the building before entering a BMW.
“He knows the building better than my tenants,” the landlord said. “It’s a big building and there are so many doors.”

The owner filed a police report for an incident last month when a similar-looking man broke into every mailbox in the garage, causing tens of thousands of dollars in damage.
At least 21 tenants have left the complex since the burglaries began, according to the landlord.
“My tenants are scared,” the landlord said, “You don’t know what this guy is [is] able to – he might stab someone for a stupid thing.”
The Los Angeles Police Department investigates crimes and urges people to report crimes when they occur, so that criminals are not inclined to return to an easy target.
