Man attacked with metal pole outside Studio City home – NBC Los Angeles

A Studio City community rallies behind a homeowner after a man with a metal pole attacked him outside his home on Friday, leaving him hospitalized with serious injuries.

Police are looking for the attacker, who they believe to be homeless, and a second man who was seen at the time of the assault.

Neighbors put up pictures around their properties of two men.

Cecilia Guile, the victim’s wife, said they originally bought their house because they liked being able to get around on foot.

The proximity to restaurants and shops along Ventura Boulevard made the Studio City neighborhood attractive to her and her family.

“It’s quick access indoors and out,” she said.

These same reasons attracted homeless people, who camped on and around their property. On Friday, Guile said, an encounter with one turned violent for her husband.

“He came down from the hill to talk to them and maybe offer some resources (like) shelter,” Guile said.

Her husband said the friendly conversation took a turn when the man became aggressive.

From the roof, another man attempted to hit Guile in the back with a long metal pole, breaking his shoulder blade. Guile also suffered fractured ribs and a collapsed lung.

Neighbor Steve Down took a photo of the alleged attacker leaving the area.

“I heard someone yell, ‘I’m going to kill you,’ so I called 911,” Down said.

Neighbors say they first noticed the tents and people set up on Wednesday and had been trying to work with police and the homeless themselves to relocate when the attack happened.

Now they have put up private property signs, hoping this will deter homeless people from returning.

“You don’t think they’re going to be aggressive,” Cecilia Guile said, “but I worry about an individual being on the street and what they might do to somebody else.”

LAPD is investigating the attack as assault with a deadly weapon.
