Tree cutter found dead hanging 50ft in Los Angeles

STUDIO CITY, CA — A tree cutter was found dead Saturday, hanging upside down about 50 feet above the ground in a tree near Studio City, authorities said.

There were live electrical wires in or near the tree, but their possible role in the man’s death was unknown, Brian Humphrey of the Los Angeles Fire Department wrote in a statement.

Around noon, firefighters and paramedics were dispatched to 3363 N. Coldwater Canyon Ave. above the San Fernando Valley and north of Mulholland Drive, officials said.

Thirty-nine firefighters were dispatched, including some specially trained for search and rescue operations in urban environments. Crews used a truck-mounted aerial ladder, rope and harness system to extricate the man.

“The man, now at ground level, was unfortunately determined beyond medical attention and died at the scene,” Humphrey said. “His affiliation with the site and the employer is unknown.”
